How did you go with the previous eight Halloween related fears? Did you diagnose yourself with any of them? Here are eight more, including – no joke – a fear of Halloween itself.

Dark woods1. Hadephobia

On the night when the veil between the living and the dead has fallen away it’s perhaps acceptable to experience a bit of hadephobia, which is the fear of hell. Depending what you get up to, you might also have a guilty conscience that warrants it.

2. Hemophobia

Got a fear of blood? Then you’re a hemophobe. I wonder if there are any vampires who just can’t stand the sight of the stuff.

3. Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia

A bit of a mouthful, this one is the fear of the number 666, also known as the number of the Beast.

4. Lygophobia

Do you need to keep the lights on at night, or won’t step outside without a torch? Then you’ve got yourself a dose of lygophobia, or fear of darkness.

5. Nyctohylophobia

This one’s the fear of dark wooded areas or of forests at night. You’d think at lease one teenagers in all those slasher flicks would have the good sense to have nyctohylophobia.

6. Paraskavedekatriaphobia

If you freak out when you hear it’s Friday the 13th, then there’s a term for that: paraskavedekatriaphobia. I don’t think it applies to the horror films, but maybe it should.

7. Phasmophobia

I love the sound of this one. Phasmophobia. Fear of ghosts. Just imagine you’re lying in bed and dismembered and see-through corpse comes floating into your bedroom. Phasmophobia has you covered.

8. Samhainophobia

And I’ve saved the best ’til last. If 31 October has you bolting the doors, diving beneath the covers, and gripping a crucifix until your hands bleed, then samhainophobia, the fear of halloween, has got you in its power. The best way to treat it is don your favourite costume, grab an alcoholic beverage and a big pile of candy, and watch Rocky Horror Picture Show. Trust me on this.

Thanks to The Phobia List for the fears.
